The Ridge Foundations Team are now working on the Backlands Garden site making repairs to the sandstone boundary walls as well as within Black Bull Close.
This means that the garden will now be open to the public on a more regular basis (from 27th November 2017 open Monday to Friday).
We are also restoring benches to place around the garden, so visitors and residents are welcome to come and enjoy the space at any time the gate is open.
Members of the public are invited to pop in between the hours of 10-4 initially every Thursday and Friday to have a look and keep up to date with the latest goings on in the Garden.
The Backlands Garden is officially open for the summer after the building of a series of whin- dust paths within the garden in conjunction with Elementscotland and funded by East Lothian Council’s Civic Pride Fund. The new pathways have made the garden fully accessible to all.
The Garden will also be trialling a local food waste composting project. We have a number of worm boxes in the Garden that can be used to create create compost out of food scraps. If you live within the vicinity of the garden and would be interested in bringing in your food waste on a regular basis in exchange for some fresh vegetables and herbs then please either message the garden’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/theridgedunbar/ or visit the site between the hours of 10-4 on a Thursday or Friday and speak to our team.
